About us

Sam Pickard

Sam has been passionate about textiles, design, pattern and print since she first walked through the doors of Camberwell Art College many years ago. Lucky enough to be among the last students on this renowned textile degree course, she immersed herself in learning a wide variety of skills, from screen and block printing techniques, through to weaving and scouring yarn, making up vast Indigo vats and keeping invaluable dye notebooks. Her interior collection won her the prestigious travel award from the Royal Society of Arts which took her to India to study wood block printing. Returning to London, she continued to develop her interest in printed textiles, working as a print and dye technician at East London University. In 1996 she set up her own business as a designer/maker helped by a Crafts Council Development Award. In 2008 she gained an MA (Distinction) at Bath Spa University and her very first digital design for fabric (Rosemary Russet) was short-listed for the British Design Awards. Since then she has exhibited her ground-breaking designs at major exhibition venues, and her work featured in the leading design magazines. Her studio is full of wonderful fabric and designs, and provides an inspiring learning environment.

Sam is also proficient in teaching computer related skills: she was a visiting lecturer teaching Photoshop at Bath Spa University for a number of years.
